About Classroom
I conducted my final internship in the Pre-Primary classroom, which consisted of 31 students, 14 boys and 16 girls. The students in this classroom were very multicultural with backgrounds including Indian, Scottish, German, South African, English, American, Maori and Filipino. There is one permanent teacher assistant in this classroom and she has a lot of responsibility and many duties, due to the class size. Due to the school being situated in a low socio economic area, resources are very limited and staff and students make the most with the resources they have.
Even though West Beverly College are low on resources, the school does aim to provide rich and positive learning experiences for their early childhood students. West Beverly College aims to create a positive early childhood environment for its students consisting of a “stimulating environment with creative learning experiences for students aged 3 – 6, where we focus on confidence building and developing positive self-esteem.”
